Resumo: Avaliou-se o efeito do ambiente e da suplementação alimentar nas respostas fisiológicas e produtivas de 34 ovelhas da raça Santa Inês, no verão do Noroeste do Paraná. Foram analisados: o sexo e o tipo de parto sobre o peso ao nascer dos cordeiros, e o tipo de parto e a semana de lactação sobre a produção de leite das ovelhas. As variáveis avaliadas foram: temperatura retal (TR), freqüência respiratória (FR), e freqüência cardíaca (FC); peso ao nascer dos cordeiros; e produção de leite das ovelhas. As variáveis fisiológicas nos períodos da manhã e da tarde foram de: 38,52 e 39,02ºC; 33,68 e 50,47 mov.min-1; e 98,89 e 113,89 batimentos.min-1 no Tratamento 1, e de 38,32 e 38,97ºC; 31,31 e 42,45 mov.min-1; e 93,73 e 106,68 batimentos.min-1 no Tratamento 2. O peso ao nascer dos cordeiros foi influenciado pelo tipo de parto e da interação sexo x tipo de parto (P<0,05). Para produção de leite, houve efeito da semana de lactação (P<0,05), com redução linear de 0,83 kg para cada semana de lactação. As variáveis fisiológicas das ovelhas Santa Inês, mantiveram-se dentro do limite ideal de temperatura retal e freqüência respiratória para a raça, demonstrando adaptação às condições ambientais do Noroeste do Paraná.

The effects of environment and feed supplementation during the last third of gestation on physiologic and productive responses of Santa Ines ewes

abstract: The environment and feed supplementation effects on the productive and physiologic responses of 34 Santa Inês breed ewes, under the summer climatic conditions of the Northwest region of the Paraná state, situated at 23º22’ south latitude and 55º56’ west longitude, were evaluated. Also, the sex and type of birth related to the weigh of the lambs at birth as well as type of birth related to milk yield of ewes at lactation week, were analysed. The evaluated variables were: rectal temperature (RT), respiratory frequency (RF), and heart frequency (HF); weight of the lambs at birth; and milk yield of ewes. The values of the physiologic variables in the morning and afternoon periods were: 38,52 and 39,02ºC; 33,68 and 50,47 breathing/minute; 98,89 and 113,89 pulse/minute in tratament 1; 38,32 and 38,97ºC; 31,31 and 42,45 breathing/minute; and 93,73 and 106,68 pulse/minute in Tratament 2. However, there was an effect on the type of birth and sex at birth weigh as well as on the sex and type of birth interaction (P<.05). There was an effect on milk yield at lactation week (P<.05); nevertheless, there was a linear reduction of 0,83 kg for each lactation week. The physiologic variables of the Santa Inês ewes were within the ideal limits for rectal temperature and respiratory frequency for that type of breed during all the experimental period, which indicates that they are well adapt to the environmental conditions of the Northwest region of the Paraná state.
