Resumo: Dois protótipos de incubadoras foram avaliados com o objetivo de disponibilizar a técnica para famílias rurais de baixo poder aquisitivo para complementação de renda e de alimento. As incubadoras foram montadas usando estrutura de madeira coberta com isopor ou com embalagem laminada de leite UAT, o aquecimento foi realizado com lâmpadas e a umidade mantida por canaletas de água no interior das mesmas. Foram incubados 124 e 62 ovos nas incubadoras de isopor e laminada, respectivamente, dos quais ficaram 108 e 61 ovos após ovoscopia realizada no 14º dia de incubação. A eclodibilidade fértil foi 81,96% e 66,6%, respectivamente, demonstrando que as incubadoras alternativas são viáveis, de baixo custo e fácil manuseio.

Artisanal hatchers: alternative to income increase

Abstract: Two prototypes of hatchers were evaluated in order to make the technique available to small farmers interested in income and nutrition improvement. The hatchers were produced using wooden structure covered with brick-like cartons of UHT milk or Styrofoam. Heat was provided by two bulb lights and the humidity was controlled using troughs filled with water. One hundred and four and sixty-two eggs were incubated in the Styrofoam and UHT hatchers, respectively. From these, 108 and 61 eggs were considered fertile at 14th day of incubation and fertile hatching was 81.96% and 66.6%, respectively. The alternative hatchers were considered viable, cost-effective and easily manageable.
