Resumo: Com o aumento do interesse na ovinocultura, na Região Norte do Estado do Rio de Janeiro, torna-se fundamental a realização de pesquisas com a finalidade de se melhorar a eficiência da produção. O presente estudo teve como objetivo verificar a influência das diferentes estações (seca e chuvosa) presentes na Região, sobre as características físicas do sêmen, medidas testiculares e corporais. O trabalho foi realizado com ovinos adultos da raça Santa Inês, que é a que predomina no Norte Fluminense, durante os anos de 2004, 2005 e início de 2006. Os dados observados foram então separados por Estação Seca/04, Estação Chuvosa/04-05, Estação Seca/05 e Estação Chuvosa/05-06, para posterior análise de variância. Os resultados encontrados não demonstraram diferenças estatísticas significativas para nenhuma das características analisadas, porém observou-se um ligeiro aumento de peso corporal a partir da Estação Seca/05 até a Estação Chuvosa/05-06 e uma melhora na qualidade do sêmen na Estação Chuvosa/05- 06. Esta melhora em peso e nas características físicas do sêmen possivelmente deve-se ao maior aporte e maior qualidade das forragens durante a estação chuvosa. Sugere-se a continuidade dos estudos a fim de se verificar a real influência das mudanças ambientais sobre as características reprodutivas e produtivas dos ovinos da raça Santa Inês, oferecendo aos produtores a possibilidade de maior produtividade e lucratividade.

Effect of the season on the physical characteristics of the semen, testicular and corporal measure of Santa Inês ram in the north Fluminense

Abstract: With the increase of the interest in the ram, in the North of Rio de Janeiro, its interesting accomplishes research with the purpose of if improving the efficiency of the production. The present study had as objective verify the influence of the different seasons (dries and rainy) presents in the Area, on the physical characteristics of the semen, testes and corporal measured. The work was carried through with adult rams of the race Santa Ines, who is predominate in the North of Rio de Janeiro, during the years 2004, 2005 and beginning of 2006. The data observed had been then separate for Dry season/04, rainy season/04-05, dry season/05 and rainy season/05-06, for posterior analysis of variance. The found results didn't demonstrate significant statistical differences for none of the analyzed characteristics; however it observed a swift increase of corporal weight from the dry season/05 until the rainy season/05-06 and an improvement in the quality of the semen in the rainy season/05-06. This improvement in weight and the physical characteristics of the semen possibly must it the greater arrives in port and greater quality of the forages during the rainy season. It is suggested continuity of the studies in order to verify the real influence of the ambient changes on the reproductive and productive characteristics of the Santa Ines ram, offering to producers the possibility of bigger productivity and profitability.
