Resumo: O trabalho teve o objetivo de avaliar o desenvolvimento ponderal de 29 bezerros da Raça Pé-Duro (17 machos e 12 fêmeas), de setembro de 2006 a dezembro de 2007. Foram utilizados dados de pesagens de bezerros, pertencentes ao Núcleo de Conservação de Recursos Genéticos da Fazenda Experimental Lagoa Bonita, do INSA. Os bezerros foram pesados ao nascer e quinzenalmente até aos 120 dias, criados em sistema semi-intensivo. Para análise do desempenho ponderal consideraram-se o sexo e fases do período seco: Fase 1 (transição do período chuvoso para o seco) e Fase 2 (período de seca crítica). Verificou-se que não houve efeito significativo (P>0,05) na interação do sexo x fase do ano e do sexo sobre os pesos dos bezerros, do nascimento aos 120 dias de idade. Porém houve efeito significativo das fases do ano sobre o desempenho ponderal e ganho de peso dos bezerros, que foram de aproximadamente 0,435 e 0,304 g/dia, respectivamente.

Ponderal development of calves Pe Duro native breed in the semi-arid

Abstract: The objective of the study was to evaluate weight performance of 29 calves Pe Duro native breed (17 males and 17 females), in the period from september 2006 to december of 2007, raised in semi-intensive system. The weight performance data of calves, belonging to the Genetic Resources Conservation Center of the Semi-Arid National Institute, Campina Grande, Paraíba, Brazil were analyzed. The calves weighings occurred upon being born to 120 days age. For analysis of the weight performance was considered the sex and phases of the dry period: Phase 1 (transition of the rainy for the dry period ) and Phase 2 (period of critical drought). It verified that had not significant effect (P>0,05) in the interaction of the sex vs. phase of the year and of the sex about the calves weights, of the birth to the 120 days of age. However had significant effect (P<0,05) of the phases of the year about the weight performance and daily weight gain of the calves, that were of approximately 0.435 and 0.304 g/day, respectively. The progress of the drought phase affects the weight performance of the Pé-Duro calves. The animals presented upper development in the period of transition between dry and rainy period. There is need of improvements in the management feed and reproductive, aiming at births in the pasture availability period.
