abstract: The objective was to determine the efficacy of moxidectin, levamisole, albendazole, trichlorfon, ivermectin and closantel in an isolate of Trichostrongylus colubriformis. Forty-two three-months-old worm free lambs were artificially infected, with 4000 infective larvae (L3) of T. colubriformis, and separated into seven groups with six animals each. Group 1 - untreated control, Group 2 - injectable moxidectin (0.2 mg / kg of BW, Cydectin ®, Fort Dodge), Group 3 - closantel orally (10 mg / kg of BW, Zuletel Oral 10%®) Group 4 - trichlorfon orally (100 mg/kg of BW, Neguvon ®, Bayer), Group 5 - injectable levamisole (4.7 mg/kg of BW, Ripercol ®, Fort Dodge), Group 6 - albendazole orally (5,0 mg/kg of BW, Valbazen ®, Pfizer) and Group 7 - treated with ivermectin injectable (0.2 mg/kg of BW, Ivomec ®, Merial). The animals were sacrificed 14 days after treatment for collection and measurement of worms in the small intestine. The percentage of efficacy of treatments was calculated from the arithmetic mean of the total number of worms. Results of counting of adult worms showed that none of the anthelminthics tested were effective. The anthelmintic that showed a greater percentage reduction in worm burden was moxidectin, with 81,55%.
