Resumo: O setor de suínos tem sofrido muitas alterações nos últimos anos que forçam uma mudança no perfil do produtor e da produção, principalmente quanto à questão da poluição ambiental, decorrente da concentração dos dejetos. Objetivou-se realizar um diagnóstico da suinocultura em importante região produtora de suínos do Mato Grosso do Sul, no município de São Gabriel do Oeste-MS, buscando-se identificar, principalmente, as relações das granjas com o manejo de dejetos gerados. O diagnóstico foi realizado pelo método Sondeio, através de entrevistas semi-estruturadas e visitas de campo, num total de oito granjas (5 de ciclo completo e 3 unidades de terminação). Observou-se que todas as granjas tratam os dejetos gerados, sendo o biodigestor o mais utilizado, com vistas à participação no mercado de crédito de carbono. Em todos os casos a suinocultura está integrada com atividades agrícolas (milho, soja e pastagem), onde utiliza os dejetos tratados como adubo, porém, sem critérios agronômicos.

The relation between swine production and waste handling: case study in a huge swine productive region

Abstract: Swine production has been changing fast over the latest years and this force a change on the producer profile and on the production, mainly when it is related to the environmental pollution which comes from the waste concentration. It was aimed to make a diagnosis of swine production in an important productive region of Mato Grosso do Sul in the city of São Gabriel do Oeste in order to identify the relations between the swine farms and the handling of the generated waste. The diagnosis was made by the Sondeio method. Semistructured interviews and field visits were made in order to achieve the results. They were studied 8 swine farms (5 of complete cycle and 3 termination units). It was observed that all the swine farms treat their waste and the biodigester is the most used method because it allows the participation of the producer in the carbon credit market. In all the cases the swine produciton is related to agriculture activities (corn, soy bean and pasture) where the treated wastes are used as fertilizer but not with agronomical criteria.
