Resumo: Objetivou-se neste estudo avaliar a perda de peso vivo e as características de carcaça de coelhas da raça Nova Zelândia branca, submetidas a jejum alimentar. Utilizou-se 20 fêmeas distribuídas ao acaso em cinco tratamentos, a saber: T1= zero hora (sem jejum), T2= jejum de seis horas, T3= jejum de 12 horas, T4= jejum de 18 horas e T5= jejum de 24 horas. Todos os animais foram pesados antes do jejum e após jejum, exceto o grupo controle (sem jejum). Baseando-se nos resultados obtidos, observou-se perda de peso vivo (P<0,05) em função do jejum. O rendimento de carcaça quente foi influenciado positivamente (P<0,05) pelo jejum alimentar.

abstract: This experiment was conducted to measure the alive weight loss and carcass characteristics of female white New Zealand breed rabbits submitted to feed withdrawal. Twenty female rabbits were used at random in five procedures, namely: T1= zero hour (no fasting), T2= six hours of fasting, T3= 12 hours of fasting, T4= 18 hours of fasting, T5= 24 hours of fasting. All the animals were weighed before and after fasting, except control group (no fasting). Based on the gotten results, loss of alive weight (P<0,05) by reason of withdrawal was observed. The hot carcass yielding was influenced positively (P<0,05) by feed withdrawal.
